This FAQ page covers the questions people ask us most, from getting started to the finer details of the BRHireD Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (C.C.M.A.) Program.   • Am I eligible for the BRHireD Program?

    • Applicants must live in qualifying parishes: Ascension, East Baton Rouge, East Feliciana, Iberville, Pointe Coupee, West Baton Rouge, or West Feliciana

    • Applicants must have a high school diploma or GED

    • Applicants will not be enrolled in any community college or college courses outside of the BRHireD C.C.M.A. program courses

  • What are the BRHireD program requirements?

    • Earn a C or higher in all academic courses
    • Maintain at least 90% of attendance
    • Meet all clinical requirements – including complete required hours, pass a drug test, and a background check
    • Complete the C.C.M.A. certification exam at the end of the training course 
  • Where is the BRHireD Program offered?

    The BRHireD C.C.M.A. program is offered through two partner community colleges. Baton Rouge Community College and River Parishes Community College.

  • What does the BRHireD scholarship cover?

    • Tuition for the Medical Assistant Training Program at either Baton Rouge Community College or River Parishes Community College
    • Supplies (books, uniforms, labs)
    • Clinical Medical Assistant (C.M.A.) Certification Exam Fee
    • Living wage stipend to cover expenses during required clinical rotation shifts
    • Additional support to help scholarship recipients excel in their training program and land quality employment as a Certified Clinical Medical Assistant 
  • How do I apply?

    • Apply for admission to your community college of choice (BRCC or RPCC)
    • Complete Accuplacer exams in Writing, Reading, and Math
    • Submit a FAFSA application
    • Submit the online BRHireD application

  • What are the Certified Clinical Medical Assistant class schedules for the Fall 2026 Training Programs at River Parishes Community College and Baton Rouge Community College?

     The class schedules are still being decided and will be shared as soon as they are available. 

  • How long is the BRHireD C.C.M.A. Program?

    Two semesters at either Baton Rouge Community College or River Parishes Community College. Clinicals take place in the last semester.

  • When is the application deadline?

    The BRHireD application is open year-round. However, the C.C.M.A. program offerings are based on the Baton Rouge Community College and River Parishes Community College’s academic calendar. 

  • What are the course schedules for Fall 2026 training?

    The course schedules for Fall 2026 are listed below:


    Baton Rouge Community College (201 Community College Dr., Baton Rouge, LA 70806:

    • Day Program: M, W, & Fr  8:30 AM - 2:30 PM
    • Evening Program: M, W, & Fr  3:30 PM - 8:50 PM

    River Parishes Community College: 925 W Edenborne Pkwy, Gonzales, LA 70737

    • Day Program: Tu & Th 8:00 AM - 3:00 PM
    • Evening Program: M - Th 5:30 PM - 8:30 PM

    River Parishes Community College: Provost Memorial Hospital, 301 Memorial Dr., Donaldsonville, LA 70346

    • Evening Program: M - Th 5:30 PM- 8:30 PM
  • How do I apply for admission at the community college I would like to attend?

    You can apply for admission at either Baton Rouge Community College or River Parishes Community College w,hich are both approved BRHireD training sites.

    You will be asked to upload the following documentation in your application:


    Email verifying you have been admitted to attend your training provider of choice (i.e. Baton Rouge Community College or River Parishes Community College)

  • How do I schedule my Accuplacer exams?

    You will need to schedule and complete your Accuplacer exams at one of the following approved testing sites: 

    All applicants must have taken the Accuplacer Exam and are required to provide a copy of their scores to submit their application. The following exams are required:

    • Quantitative Reasoning, Algebra, and Statistics Accuplacer Score
    • Writing Accuplacer Score
    • Reading Accuplacer Score

    Accuplacer exam scores taken within 12 months of the application submission date will be accepted for this requirement. 


    You will be asked to upload the following documentation to complete this step:

    • Accuplacer individual score report with test results and time record visible 
  • How can I prepare for my Accuplacer exams?

  • I’ve already taken Accuplacer exams. Can I use those scores?

    Yes. You can use previous Reading, Writing, and Math Accuplacer exam scores. However, scores must be within a year.

  • What do I have to score on my Accuplacer exams?

    There is no minimum score required to be considered for the BRHireD scholarship. Competitive applicants score above: 

    • Math: 228
    • Writing: 225
    • Reading: 235

  • What is the BRHireD Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (C.C.M.A.) program?

    BRHireD is a workforce development scholarship program available to residents of the Baton Rouge area to become high-quality Certified Clinical Medical Assistants (C.C.M.A) and enter the healthcare workforce in the Baton Rouge Area. The end goal is job placement within the local healthcare institutes of Greater Baton Rouge. 

  • Why do I have to apply for FAFSA?

    Completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form is an important step in your BRHireD application. It allows your Cimmunity College training provider to determine if you qualify for a Pell Grant—a federal grant that doesn’t need to be repaid. The Pell Grant is applied to tuition first, and your BRHireD scholarship covers any remaining costs. You should share your FAFSA form with the financial aid office at your training provider.


    You will be asked to upload 1 of the following pieces of documentation in your application to verify that you have completed this step:

    • Confirmation email verifying successful submission of your 2025-2026 FAFSA form (this email should include a confirmation number)
    • Confirmation email verifying your application was processed successfully (this email should include a confirmation number) 

    Students who start their training program in January will also need to complete the a FAFSA form for each traditional school year that they will be enrolled in training.
